What is J-Net?		Ｊネットはどのようなグループですか？
The Japanese Network is a group of about 160 mainly freelance Japanese/English translators and interpreters, most of whom live in the UK. Many of us work in different fields such as tourism, culture, engineering and medicine. Our members work independently and the Network's ethos is predominantly one of cooperation rather than competition. We are part of the UK's Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) and we have three membership categories: Friends of J-Net (members of the Network who are not Associate Members or Members of ITI but who have a interest in Japanese language), Associates (who are Associate Members of ITI) and Members (who are qualified Members or Fellows of ITI). We welcome anyone who has a professional interest in Japanese language whether they are a member of ITI or not.		日本語ネットワークは約160名主にフリーランスで働く日本語/英語の翻訳及び通訳に携わる専門家グループで、メンバーのほとんどは英国に居住しており、旅行産業、文化、工学や医学など、多様な分野を専門としています。メンバーはそれぞれ独自に仕事をこなしており、ネットワークの根本的理念は競争することではなく、お互い協力していくことです。このネットワークは英国翻訳通訳協会 (ITI)の分派であり、メンバーシップにはＪネット友の会会員（ITIの正会員または準会員ではないが、日本語に関心があるメンバー）、準会員（ITI準会員のメンバー）、そして正会員（ITI認可の正会員または特別会員のメンバー）の3つのカテゴリーがあります。ITIの会員であるかどうかは問わず、職業上日本語に関心のある方ならどなたでも歓迎いたします。



How Did We Get Where We Are?		ネットワークの歩んできた道のり
The Japanese Network started in 1986 the same year as ITI was inaugurated. We originally had three members and our first Bulletin was published two years later in 1988. The first annual general meeting took place in 1991, and there has been a meeting every year since at various venues throughout the UK. The Network has grown steadily and now has around 160 members. Membership, especially in the Friends category, received a boost after the Network organised the IJET-8 conference in 1997 in conjunction with the School of East Asian Studies at the University of Sheffield. IJET is The International Japanese/English Translation Conference which is held by The Japan Association of Translators. We hosted a successful IJET-18 at the University of Bath from 22nd-24th June, 2007.		日本語ネットワークはITIが創立されたときと同じ1986年にスタートしました。当初は3人のメンバーで構成され、最初の会誌は二年後の1988年に刊行されました。最初の年次総会は1991年に主催され、それから毎年英国内の様々な場所で会合が開かれています。ネットワークは順調に広がり、現在約160 人のメンバーがいます。1997年シェフィールド大学において、東アジア研究所と共同で第八回IJET会議をネットワークが主催したのを受け、特に友の会のメンバーシップが急激に増加しました。 Jネットは2007年6月22日から24日に、バース大学においてIJET-18を主催いたしました。



What is Our Purpose?		目的は何ですか？
We act as a support group for Japanese to English and English to Japanese translators and interpreters in the three areas of social interaction, professional development and business development. Our definition of a network is 'a non-hierarchical group of people with a common interest, each member communicating with every other to share knowledge, skill, experience and support.' The Network's basic function is as a web of contacts which enables its members to contact each other via our mailing list, look for help with things such as work-related problems, to pass on job offers and make announcements about social events.		このネットワークは英訳及び和訳を携わる翻訳者ならびに通訳者を社交、専門性開発、そして事業開発の3つの面においてサポートするグループです。当ネットワークを「共通の関心を持ち、お互い触れ合う中で知識、技能、経験とサポートを共有していく人々が集まった上下関係のないグループ」と定義しています。ネットワークの基本的機能はメーリングリストを通じてメンバー同士が連絡を取ることができる連絡網であり、それによってメンバーが仕事関連の問題についてアドバイスを受けたり、仕事情報を伝達したり、社交イベントについて知らせたりすることができます。



How Are We Organised?		どのような構造になっていますか？
We have set up a number of posts (Coordinator, Treasurer, Public Relations Officer, Membership Secretary, Bulletin Editor, Webmaster and Professional Development Officer). These posts are rotated among members after an individual has been in a post for about 3 years in order to share the workload and responsibilities. Since we are a Network of ITI, we do not have our own Code of Conduct as such, but we are bound by the ITI Code of Conduct which can be found on the ITI website.		当ネットワークには役員が置かれています。コーディネーター、会計係、広報係、メンバーシップ係、会誌編集係、ウェブマスター、プロフェッショナル・デベロップメント・オフィサーです。役員たちは、作業と責任を共有するために、約3年務めた後、メンバー内で交代されます。このネットワークはITIの分派であることから、独自の行動規範というものはなく、 ITIの行動規範の管理下にあります。詳しくはITIのホームページをご覧ください。



What Do We Do?		どのような活動をしていますか?
We're a busy network. We publish a bulletin twice a year containing reports of the Network's activities, articles on subjects of interest to J/E translators and interpreters and profiles of Members and Friends. We hold a combined social gathering and annual general meeting once a year which usually coincides with a workshop for translators and interpreters. We maintain an up-to-date list of Friends and Members with their contact details and maintain a up to date list of members on our website search page for potential work providers such as translation agencies to search through. We maintain a website with network information and useful links and have an active mailing list. We liaise with ITI and other translation and interpreting organisations around the world to publicise the Network and keep our members in touch with wider developments. We hold an annual Japanese to English and English to Japanese translation competition amongst our members to improve the quality of translation and encourage new members to participate. We hold an annual translation competiton for our members from November to January and offer cash prizes for the winners.		当グループは活発なネットワークです。年に一回または二回会誌を発行し、ネットワークの活動の報告を始め、日英翻訳者及び通訳者が関心を持つ話題の記事、それにメンバーたちの紹介などが掲載されています。また、社交の場としての機能ももった総会を開いており、通常そこでは翻訳者及び通訳者のためにワークショップも開催されます。友の会会員及び正会員の連絡先詳細なども常にアップデートしているだけでなく、翻訳会社のような仕事供給先でもある人たちが検索に使う当ホームページに掲載されるメンバーのリストもアップデートしています。このグループでは、ネットワーク情報や役に立つリンクが満載されたホームページを維持し、メーリングリストを大いに活用しています。ITIや世界の他の翻訳及び通訳機関と協同してこのネットワークの知名度を高めるとともに、メンバーたちに大きな動きについて知らせます。



What Are Our Plans For The Future?		今後のプランはどのようなものですか?
We want to maintain high standards for Japanese and English translation and interpreting in the UK. We want to improve communications by using our mailing list, develop our website and advertise the Network more widely with the aim of securing more business for our members. We also aim to continue strengthening our links with the worldwide J/E translation and interpreting communities.		私たちの願望は、英国における日本語と英語の翻訳通訳の高い水準を維持していくことです。メーリングリストを通してお互いのコミュニケーションを良好にし、ホームページを活用させ、ネットワークの知名度を上げることにより、当メンバーに仕事獲得の機会が多くなるようにする意図もあります。また、このネットワークは世界の日英翻訳通訳コミュニティとのリンクも強化させ続けていくつもりです。2007年の夏には、バース大学でIJET-18を主催しました。IJETは国際日本語英語翻訳会議のことであり、日本翻訳者協会によって開催されます。

How Do I Find Out More?		詳細について教えてください。
The Japanese Network welcomes inquiries from prospective Friends and Members. We ask for a yearly subscription fee (£20 for 2010 and only £10 from July to December 2010) which covers administration costs and which we think is affordable.
